Associate Project Manager
Level 4
An Associate Project Manager Assessment Organisation is an approved company that is responsible for providing assessments for apprenticeships in the field of Project Management. As an Assessment Organisation in the Project Management sector, we will ensure that apprentices meet the required standards and competencies outlined in the relevant apprenticeship standards.
What the Role Entails
Projects can be defined and delivered within different contexts, across diverse industry sectors. They can be large or small. Every project needs to be managed to ensure its success, an associate project manager knows what needs to be achieved, how it will be achieved, how long it will take and how much it will cost and works with the project team to achieve the required outcomes. Associate project managers need good planning, organisation, leadership, management and communication skills. An associate project manager utilises resources with suitable skills, qualifications, experience and knowledge to work together in a motivated and integrated team, with clearly defined reporting lines, roles, responsibilities and authorities. Dependent upon the size of the organisations and the complexity of projects, associate project managers’ job titles will vary, but typically they can include assistant project manager, junior project manager, project team leader. Some organisations use ‘project manager’ as a generic job title.
Components of the Associate Project Manager Assessment
Order of Assessment Methods
The assessment methods can be delivered in any order. The result of one assessment method does not need to be known before starting the next.
Performance in the Assessments determines the overall grade of:
• Fail
• Pass
• Distinction
Professional discussion
The apprentice’s professional discussion will be based on their portfolio of evidence, for each learning area, questioning will explore the apprentices’ understanding of the chosen competence areas.
The professional discussion must last for 60 minutes. The independent assessor can increase the time of the professional discussion by up to 10%. The independent assessor must ask at least 6 questions. Follow-up questions are allowed where clarification is required.
Project with report
A written project report involves the apprentice completing a significant and defined piece of work that has a real business application and benefit. The written project report must meet the needs of the employer’s business and be relevant to the apprentice’s occupation and apprenticeship.
Together, these components give the apprentice the opportunity to demonstrate the KSBs mapped to this assessment method. They are assessed by an independent assessor.
The written project report must have a word count of 3500 words. A tolerance of 10% above or below is allowed at the apprentice’s discretion. Appendices, references and diagrams are not included in this total.
The presentation with questions must last 60 minutes. This will typically include a presentation of 20 minutes and questioning lasting 40 minutes.
