Facilities Services Operative

Level 2

A Facilities Services Operative Assessment Organisation is an approved company responsible for delivering assessments for apprenticeships in this field. As an Assessment Organisation in the Facilities Management sector, we ensure that apprentices meet the required standards and competencies set out in the relevant apprenticeship standards.

What the Role Entails

This occupation is found in the facilities management (FM) industry both on the “supplier” side (i.e. those companies that supply FM services to their customers) and the “client” side (i.e. the recipients of those contracted FM services). A Facilities Services Operative is a broad description of someone who provides facilities services support to customers and FM departments. This may include services such as security, supporting hard FM functions like maintenance and engineering, and soft FM such as cleaning, catering, front-of-house logistics, post-room services, and portering.

Components of the Facilities Services Operative Assessment

Professional Discussion with portfolio

In the professional discussion, an independent assessor and apprentice have a formal two-way conversation. It gives the apprentice the opportunity to demonstrate the KSBs mapped to this assessment method.

The professional discussion must be conducted on a 1:1 basis and must last for 60 minutes. Nobody other than the independent assessor and the apprentice may participate in the professional discussion. During this method, the independent assessor will ask a minimum of 6 open questions to ensure that apprentices’ skills, knowledge and behaviours are demonstrated.

Observation (follow up Q&A)

The observation will take place in the apprentice’s normal place of work while they are undertaking normal work duties. This will be followed by a Q&A session.

The observation will take 2 hours.

Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) Knowledge Test

The test will be in the form of multiple choice questions that align with the standard’s knowledge and skills requirements.

It will consist of 20 knowledge-based questions.
