An Early Years Lead Practitioner Apprenticeship Assessment Organisation is an approved company that is responsible for providing assessments for apprenticeships in the Early Years Lead Practitioner field. As an Assessment Organisation in this sector, we will ensure that apprentices meet the required standards and competencies outlined in the relevant apprenticeship standards.
What the Role Entails
Early Years Lead Practitioners, are highly trained proactive and influential professionals, working directly with children, usually reporting directly to the head of the setting. They work in a range of settings including day nurseries, playgroups, nursery schools, pre-schools, primary schools, hospitals, social care settings, out of school environments and local authority provision. These highly skilled professionals take an operational lead for the care, learning and development of all young children within their care, adapting to individual needs, providing an inclusive and holistic provision. An employee in this occupation interacts with children aged birth to eight years, families, practitioners, other professionals and appropriate agencies.
Components of the Early Years Lead Practitioner Assessment
Order of assessment methods
The assessment methods can be delivered in any order. The result of one assessment method does not need to be known before starting the next.
The result from each assessment method is combined to decide the overall apprenticeship grade. The following grades are available for the apprenticeship:

Professional Discussion Underpinned by a Portfolio of Evidence
In the professional discussion, an independent assessor and apprentice have a formal two-way conversation. It gives the apprentice the opportunity to demonstrate the KSBs mapped to this assessment method.
The professional discussion must last for 90 minutes. The independent assessor can increase the time of the professional discussion by up to 10%. This time is to allow the apprentice to respond to a question if necessary.
The independent assessor must ask at least 8 questions.
Graded as Fail, Pass, Distinction
Observation with questions
In the observation with questioning, an independent assessor observes the apprentice in their workplace and asks questions. The apprentice completes their day-to-day duties under normal working conditions. Simulation is not allowed. It gives the apprentice the opportunity to demonstrate the KSBs mapped to this assessment method.
Questions must be asked after the observation. The total duration of the observation with questions assessment method is 90 minutes and the time for questioning is included in the overall assessment time. The total time for the observation element is 60 minutes. The time allocated for questioning is 30 minutes.
The observation must take place in person and not remotely.
