Children, Young People and Families Manager

Level 5

An Children, Young People and Families Manager Apprenticeship Assessment Organisation is an approved company that is responsible for providing assessments for apprenticeships in the Early Intervention field. As an Assessment Organisation in this sector, we will ensure that apprentices meet the required standards and competencies outlined in the relevant apprenticeship standards.

What the Role Entails

The role of a Children, Young People and Family Manager is to lead teams and services that support children, young people, and families to achieve positive and lasting outcomes. Managers provide direction, align resources, and implement effective working practices that place the child, young person, or family at the centre of decision-making. They build and develop teams, oversee performance, and work collaboratively across agencies such as health, education, social care, and voluntary organisations. In practice, they model professional behaviours, promote reflective learning, and ensure safe and effective delivery. Their focus is on enabling practitioners to develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those they support.

Components of the Children, Young People and Families Manager Assessment

Competence Interview informed by Portfolio

The competence interview is a structured discussion of 55-65 minutes duration between the apprentice and the independent assessor, focusing on the work covered in the portfolio.

Situational Judgement Test

The situational judgement test will be a paper-based written test consisting of 4 questions and will last 45 mins. It will be undertaken alongside the competence interview. The test will be marked by the independent assessor and will form 50% of the final grade.

Assessment Methods

The assessment will consist of two assessment methods:

1. A Situational Judgement Test

2. A competence interview informed by submission of a portfolio.

Performance in the Assessments determines the overall grade of:
• Fail
• Pass
• Distinction
